FAQ’s

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe, powerful psychotherapeutic tool.  Hypnosis or ‘trance’ is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and then focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful.  Have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, or been engrossed in a book and not been conscious of time passing? If so, you’ve been in a state of focused attention, not unlike the feeling of being hypnotised.

What is solution focused hypnotherapy?

Solution focused hypnotherapy combines psychotherapy and hypnosis to bring about therapeutic change.  We use modern and research based techniques which include brain based explanations, solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).  We focus on solutions rather than problems so there is no need to talk about painful or emotional memories.

Can you hypnotise me to do anything?

No. Unlike the perception of hypnotherapy you see on TV, hypnotherapy is not mind control.  Your subconscious will reject anything suggestion that is inappropriate for you.  Solution focused hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and change will only occur because you want it to and are ready to take the steps towards it.

Will it work online?

Yes! Therapy sessions work effectively online and in person, the choice is yours.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required will vary according to the client and the issue.  Typically treatment of phobias is 3 sessions where as depression or anxiety could be between 8 to 12 sessions.  Treatment length is discussed at the initial consultation and package options are available.
